Guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron, and bassist Ben Shepherd have confirmed a reunion performance by SOUNDGARDEN for the halftime show of the Seattle Seahawks' season opener on Wednesday, September 9. The event will take place at Lumen Field in Seattle, marking the band's return to the venue where they previously performed a six-song set in September 2014.

The lineup will include Thayil, Cameron, and Shepherd, with guest vocalists Taylor Momsen and Mike McCready filling the role of Chris Cornell, who passed away in May 2017. Momsen has previously performed with SOUNDGARDEN at tribute events, including the 2019 'I Am The Highway' concert in Los Angeles.

SOUNDGARDEN is also working on a new album featuring previously unreleased recordings made with Cornell before his death. The material, which includes songs co-written by Cornell, will be released with full credits to the late frontman. Songs such as 'Cancer,' 'Stone Age Mind,' 'Road Less Traveled,' 'Orphans,' 'At Ophians Door,' 'Ahead Of The Dog,' and 'Merrmas' are set to appear on the record.

The band's surviving members are collaborating with producer Terry Date, who previously produced 'Louder Than Love' and 'Badmotorfinger.' Mixing sessions have recently taken place with Joe Barresi. The new album is not yet scheduled for release, as the group works through contractual arrangements with the record label and evaluates promotion timelines.

SOUNDGARDEN was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025, joining the Performer category. The induction included original bassist Hiro Yamamoto, who played on the band's first two albums and EPs. The band performed at the ceremony with Momsen and McCready as guest vocalists.
