Progressive music titans Steve Hackett (Genesis) and Steve Rothery (Marillion) have joined forces on the long-awaited instrumental album “The Roaring Waves”.
Scheduled to drop on August 28, 2026 via InsideOut Music, the record has been a topic of discussion among fans for years.
The album brings together seven instrumental compositions that seamlessly blend cinematic and intimate elements.
Hackett describes their collaborative process as “organic and improvisational,” with sessions taking place at Racket Club and their respective home studios.
This approach allowed both players to explore a dynamic defined by sensitivity and mutual respect.
Throughout the album, Hackett and Rothery create a painterly atmosphere, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in their music.
As Rothery notes, “You’re trying to create an atmosphere… like painting a picture,” adding that they aim to take listeners on a journey.
The album features the first single, “The Black Sea,” accompanied by a visually stunning video directed by Tim Sidwell.
The video showcases Hackett and Rothery performing alongside album collaborators Riccardo Romano and Leon Parr.
Pre-orders are available for several formats, including a limited CD+Blu-ray mediabook edition featuring Dolby Atmos mixes.
The album will also be released as a standard CD and gatefold 180g LP, cut at half speed at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell.
