have announced the upcoming release of an expanded Special Edition of The Beatles’ 1965 album Rubber Soul.
The reissue, set for October 2, will feature newly mixed versions of the album in stereo and Dolby Atmos, alongside the original mono mix and the Capitol U.S.
album version.
The collection also includes 24 early session recordings, such as 20 previously unreleased takes and three previously unreleased home demos, including early versions of 'Day Tripper' and 'We Can Work It Out,' and a previously unheard John Lennon song outline titled 'Little Girl.' The new stereo mixes are sourced directly from the original four-track master tapes and have been enhanced using cutting-edge de-mixing technology developed by Emile de la Rey’s sound team at WingNut Films Productions Ltd.
All 14 new stereo mixes will be presented together for the first time in the expanded editions.
Available in multiple formats, the reissue includes a 5LP Box Set, a 4CD Box Set, a Special Edition Deluxe (30 tracks) in 2LP/2CD form, a Standard Edition (14 tracks) on 1LP black vinyl, 1LP orange vinyl, and 1CD digisleeve, and a Blu-ray Edition with the new Dolby Atmos mix, high-resolution stereo audio, and promotional films for 'Day Tripper' and 'We Can Work It Out.' Limited-edition orange vinyl and D2C exclusive Zoetrope vinyl editions are also included.
The 4CD and 5LP Super Deluxe editions come with an 88-page hardbound book featuring a new written introduction by Paul McCartney and a foreword compiled from John Lennon’s own words, offering reflections on the album’s making and lasting impact.
The book includes rare photographs, in-depth background information, and track notes.
The announcement also highlights future Beatles projects: a four-film cinematic event directed by Sam Mendes, starring Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison), will be released in April 2028 through Sony Pictures Entertainment and Neal Street Productions.
This marks the first time Apple Corps and The Beatles have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
Additionally, 3 Savile Row—the location of The Beatles’ iconic rooftop concert—will be transformed into the first official fan experience, opening in 2027.
Rubber Soul, first released on December 3, 1965, is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in The Beatles’ evolution, marking their transition from pop music to more experimental songwriting and recording techniques.
The album features classics such as 'Drive My Car,' 'Norwegian Wood,' 'Nowhere Man,' 'Michelle,' 'Girl,' and 'In My Life.' The reissue celebrates the album’s enduring legacy and its role in shaping the long-form pop album as an art form."
