THE KOVENANT has confirmed the creation of its first studio album in over two decades, set for release by the end of 2025.

The band, formed in 1993 under the name COVENANT by Nagash and Blackheart, reformed in 2024 after a long hiatus and has since expanded its lineup with two new guitarists.

Ghul Charles Hedger, formerly of MAYHEM, and Knut Magne Valle, formerly of ARCTURUS, have joined the group.

The new album will feature material co-written primarily by Nagash and keyboardist Steinar Sverd, with input from both new guitarists.

The band has stated that the music is a blend of all its previous albums, including elements from 'In Times Before The Light', 'Nexus Polaris', and 'Animatronic', while incorporating new, more aggressive and atmospheric sounds.

The album will feature symphonic and electronic elements, with Nagash emphasizing that it will not be a rehash of past work.

The band previously performed full sets of 'Nexus Polaris', 'Animatronic', and its debut album at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting festival in December 2024.

Despite the absence of founding member Blackheart due to health issues, the band continues to perform and develop new material.

The project remains conceptually rooted in Nagash's artistic vision, with the band rejecting the idea of repeating past albums.

The new album marks a significant evolution in THE KOVENANT's sound, aiming to blend black metal with industrial and symphonic influences.

A full release window and track listing will be announced later in 2025.

The band has confirmed that the recording process is underway and will conclude by year's end.

The album will be released through Nuclear Blast, the band's long-time label."
