BMG has announced the worldwide release of Tony Iommi's new solo album, 'From The Dark,' marking his third studio effort after 2000's 'Iommi' and 2005's 'Fused.' The album, which features co-writing and vocal contributions from Norwegian artist Jorn Lande, bassist Becky Baldwin, and drummer Karl Brazil, is set for release with a global streaming premiere of its first single, 'World Alone,' hosted today in Iommi's hometown of Birmingham, England—just a stone's throw from the Black Sabbath Bridge, a civic tribute to the iconic band opened in 2019.
'World Alone' is a thunderous rock track built on a barrage of guitar riffs and solos, supported by a driving rhythm section and elevated by Jorn Lande's powerful rock operatic vocals.
The song's accompanying video is set in a retrofuture, dystopian universe where a protagonist known as 'The Believer' is thrust into a twisted video game to save his life and find salvation.
Co-produced by Iommi and longtime collaborator Mike Exeter, the album's sound is described as crystalline, vibrant, and enormous, offering a contemporary yet timeless sonic experience.
Iommi stated: 'It's an album we've really enjoyed making.
We're not trying to prove anything — it's a great album, it rocks!' The album's tracklist includes 'Over The Violent Sun,' 'Black Times,' 'World Alone,' 'Beyond The Dead,' 'Stormwatcher,' 'Death Wake,' 'Return Of The Arbalist,' and 'Legacy,' with 'Stormwatcher' and 'Death Wake' highlighting existential themes and nautical metaphors, while the closing tracks deliver a powerful blend of fury and epic scale.
A limited-edition seven-inch single of 'World Alone,' backed with an instrumental version and housed in a deluxe, foiled sleeve, will be released on September 4.
The song will also be available on the Gibson learn-to-play-guitar app.
'From The Dark' will be available in multiple deluxe formats, including a double LP pressed at 45rpm in four colors, with a premium black card featuring a die-cut of Tony Iommi's signature cross.
A CD exclusive available on Amazon includes the same sleeve and a 32-page media book with two bonus tracks: 'Scent Of Dark' and 'Deified (extended version).'"
